BASC Achieves 3-Star Rating in QS Stars: A Testament to Excellence and Commitment to Growth

Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) has once again proven its unwavering dedication to academic excellence and institutional development, earning a 3-star rating from the prestigious QS Stars World University Rankings. This recognition places BASC among globally recognized institutions that have demonstrated strong performance in key areas of higher education.

Achieving a 3-star rating is no small feat for a state college striving to elevate its standards amidst challenges.

The rigorous and independent evaluation assessed multiple performance indicators. BASC excelled in several key areas earning 4 to 5 stars, showcasing its commitment to quality education and holistic development. The 4-star rating in Teaching reflects the dedication of its faculty members and the institution’s student-centered learning approach. In Employability, BASC graduates continue to make an impact in various industries, demonstrating their skills and competencies. The college also received top marks in Social Impact and Good Governance, underscoring its unwavering commitment to community development and responsible leadership. Additionally, its strong performance in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion highlights BASC’s efforts in fostering a learning environment that values equal opportunities for all.

While the institution has showcased excellence in these areas, the results also provide valuable insights into areas for improvement, such as Global Engagement and Academic Development. These benchmarks will serve as guideposts for BASC’s future strategic initiatives.

The initiative was led by BASC President Dr. Jameson H. Tan, whose vision and dedication inspired the entire BASC academic community to work toward continuous improvement. BASC Scholars Receive Increased Incentives from My Happy Farmers Inc. at General Assembly

The My Happy Farmers Inc. General Assembly was successfully held on February 19, 2025, at the Testing Room, OSAS Building, Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC). The event marked a significant milestone as scholarship incentives were awarded to BASC agriculture students, reinforcing My Happy Farmers Inc.’s continued commitment to supporting future agricultural leaders.

Since its launch in Academic Year 2022-2023, the scholarship program has provided financial assistance to 20 students. To date, four scholars have successfully graduated, leaving sixteen active beneficiaries. In recognition of the students’ hard work and dedication, My Happy Farmers Inc. increased the scholarship incentive from PHP 6,000 to PHP 7,500 per semester, ensuring greater support for their academic journey.

The event was organized by the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) and was officially opened by Dr. Jennifer P. Adriano, OSAS Director. In her address, she encouraged the scholarship recipients to remain diligent in their studies and pursue their aspirations with determination. She also expressed profound gratitude to the funding organization for selecting BASC agriculture students as beneficiaries and conveyed her hope for a continued and strengthened partnership in the future.

A key highlight of the program was the inspirational message delivered by Mr. Florante Dela Cruz, Chief Executive Officer of My Happy Farmers Inc. He underscored the vital role of young agricultural students as the future of the agriculture industry and emphasized the significance of private sector support in addressing the challenges faced by young farmers. He also highlighted the importance of integrating modern agricultural technologies to enhance food production and sustainability in the country.

The program proceeded with the scholarship awarding ceremony, led by Mr. Florante Dela Cruz, Dr. Jennifer P. Adriano, and Mr. Vernie B. Compas, author of Crafting an Innovative Urban Organic Garden, who donated a copy of his book to the program. This initiative aims to serve as a vital resource for students and researchers, further enriching their academic and professional pursuits in agriculture.

To formally conclude the event, Mr. Argie T. Bunalade, Head of the Institutional Student Programs and Services Unit, delivered the closing remarks, expressing appreciation for the participants and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the assembly.

General Assembly serves as a significant platform for BASC students to engage with industry leaders, gain insights into agricultural innovations, and foster meaningful collaborations with the private sector. BASC Hosts SCUFAR 3 February 2025 Meeting

The Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) hosted the State Colleges and Universities Faculty Association Region III (SCUFAR 3) Regular Monthly Meeting held February 4 – 5, 2025 at the BASC Function Hall. This event brought together faculty regents, trustees, and sports and cultural coordinators from 12 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the region.

In their Opening Remarks, Mx. Marivic A. Capalad, BASC Faculty Trustee, expressed delight in being the meeting’s host, and further echoed BASC President Jameson H. Tan’s stance that Region 3 SUCs are a family. Meanwhile, in her message on behalf of the College President, Dr. Cecilia S. Santiago, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stressed that SCUFAR 3 is very much welcome to BASC.

During the two-day meeting, attendees discussed a variety of important topics, including strategic planning, the SCUFAR 3 sports festival, team-building exercises, and other necessary matters. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Divina C. Ladrillo, Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU) Faculty Regent, and President of SCUFAR 3.

SCUFAR 3 serves as a platform for developing camaraderie among SUC personnel in Region III by providing chances for mentoring, benchmarking, professional development, and resolving faculty welfare concerns. The Association’s goal is to improve the general working environment and build the network of faculty members from other universities through regular meetings and joint efforts.

BASC’s hosting of this event, with cultural performances from the BASC Liping Tagalog Folkloric Group, demonstrates its dedication to academic, cultural and sport collaboration, as well as institutional development, cementing its position as a significant player in furthering higher education in the region.

Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) is proud to announce its full compliance with the enhanced Freedom of Information (FOI) requirements set by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), a crucial criterion for the grant of the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for Fiscal Year 2023.

The FOI-Program Management Office (FOI-PMO) extended its heartfelt gratitude to BASC for its steadfast adherence to transparency and accountability standards. Following a thorough validation process, the College was officially recognized as fully compliant, reflecting its unwavering commitment to fostering open governance and providing accessible information to the public.

In recognition of this achievement, the FOI-PMO has issued a Certificate of Compliance, which will be prominently displayed on the BASC website under the Transparency Seal, further underscoring the institution’s dedication to public service and integrity.

The College proudly maintains its record of consistent Freedom of Information (FOI) compliance since 2019. BASC, from 2019 to 2023, has consistently aligned its practices with national policies on open governance, setting a high standard for excellence in public service.

The FOI-PMO extended its gratitude to BASC for its steadfast commitment to providing accessible and timely information to the public, further strengthening public trust.

Empowering Rural Communities through Local Product Innovation” at Mayantoc Municipal Hall, Poblacion Sur, Mayantoc, Tarlac

The project management team of “Sustainability of Diversified and Integrated Rice-based Farming System in the Rainfed Lowland and Upland Areas of Central Luzon” conducted a hands-on training session on November 21, 2024 titled “Empowering Rural Communities through Local Product Innovation” at Mayantoc Municipal Hall, Poblacion Sur, Mayantoc, Tarlac.

The training aims to empower farmers, youth, and rural women to create sustainable, income-generating ventures by producing safe and marketable products such as pickled bitter gourd, turmeric tea, and sweet potato and banana chips. Serving as the resource speaker, Ms. Joy Christine V. Sta. Cruz, program chairperson of the Food Technology Department, delivered an insightful lecture on the principles of pickling and sugar preservation.

She is also leading practical demonstrations on the proper techniques for selecting, preparing, and processing bitter gourd, ginger, sweet potato, and bananas. Additionally, Ms. Sta. Cruz is emphasizing the importance of maintaining strict hygiene practices throughout the production process, particularly in crafting high-quality banana and sweet potato chips and ginger tea.

The event concluded with a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the project’s 12 farmer-beneficiaries, solidifying their commitment to the initiative. This was followed by the release of financial assistance, providing the beneficiaries with vital support to kickstart their agricultural ventures.

BASC's Rice-Native Chicken Farming Technology at DA RFO 3 Tech Forum 2024

Dr. Imelda S.A. Navarro took the stage at the recent DA RFO 3 Tech Forum last November 4-5, 2024, themed “Harnessing Agricultural Innovations Toward Building Technology-Based Businesses.” The event showcased advanced agricultural technologies and products developed by researchers and R4D collaborative institutions across the region.
Dr. Navarro presented a technology pitch on the “Rice-Native Chicken Farming System,” developed through their project, “Rice-based Farming System Integrated with Free-range Chicken Production for Small-hold Farms.” This innovative system was developed through the concept of Palayamanan technology, providing an alternative production approach to address pressing challenges in intensive rice farming by incorporating Free-range Chicken Production as an additional component. An open forum followed after her presentation, accommodating questions from the attendees, especially those who had an interest in adopting their technology.
Mrs. Joanna Marie S. Bradecina also attended the forum and exhibited salted eggs and IEC materials from BASC.

The Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) is proud to announce its full compliance with Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Memorandum Circular No. 24-004, particularly Section 2: Production, Posting, and Dissemination. As part of its commitment to transparency and public access, BASC has displayed its one-page Freedom of Information (FOI) Manual in key locations on campus and has also made it accessible online via the Transparency Seal on the BASC website.

To ensure inclusivity and better public understanding, the FOI Manual is now available in both English and Filipino. This initiative provides an easy-to-understand guide for citizens on their right to request or access information from government agencies under the Executive branch, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
