𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐖: The faculty extensionists from the College of Agriculture (CA) in collaboration with the Extension Services Office spearheaded the conduct of a training seminar titled “Post-ASF Outbreak Management Practices” at the Farmers’ Training Center, BASC Compound, Pinaod, San Ildefonso, Bulacan today, September 20, 2024.
The program aims to equip backyard swine raisers from various Bulacan municipalities with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage and prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) post-outbreak. Participants, including backyard raisers from Norzagaray, San Miguel, San Rafael, Pandi, Bustos, and San Ildefonso, as well as BASC students, engaged in discussions and shared their experiences from previous ASF outbreaks.
Dr. Voltaire G. Basinang, Provincial Veterinarian of Bulacan, provided an update on the province’s ongoing battle against ASF. Dr. Voltaire announced that ASF vaccines will arrive soon, and they will immediately distribute them to selected swine raisers participating in the initial trial.
Dr. Arden C. Evangelista, the event’s keynote speaker, highlighted effective management practices for post-ASF outbreaks. He stressed the importance of strict biosecurity protocols to prevent the virus from entering farms and infecting livestock.
Wrapping up the seminar, Dr. Jericho Gonzales of Charoen Pokphand Foods Philippines Corporation shared insights on how their company deals with the ASF and offered strategies for backyard raisers to repopulate their herds while controlling the spread of the virus.
