From Security to Office Work: A President’s Vision That’s Changing Lives at BASC

At the Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC), growth isn’t just reserved for students — it’s a shared opportunity for everyone who calls the institution home.

In a move that has inspired the entire BASC community, College President Dr. Jameson H. Tan has championed a transformative initiative that looks beyond job titles to recognize potential, effort, and heart.

Seeing Potential Beyond the Uniform
Known for his humble and people-centered leadership, Dr. Tan saw something special in several members of the BASC security team — individuals who, despite holding college degrees, had long been assigned to campus security posts. Instead of letting their talents go unseen, he opened new doors of opportunity.

“BASC is not only a learning institution — it should also be a place of opportunity for our own people,” Dr. Tan often says.

True to his word, he initiated a reassignment program that allowed qualified security personnel to move into administrative roles, empowering them to use their education and pursue professional growth.

Supporting Dreams, Building Careers
The support didn’t end with reassignments. Knowing that permanent government positions require Civil Service eligibility, the administration encouraged and assisted these employees in reviewing for the Civil Service Examination — helping them take another step toward long-term career stability.

The results speak for themselves. Several former members of the security team have now transitioned into vital administrative roles:

  • Ramiro F. Santos, now Administrative Aide VI in the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
  • Cris R. Espiritu, now Support Staff in the same office.
  • Alvin L. Taluban, now Laboratory Aide at the College of Engineering and Technology.
  • Cristine B. Mananguit, now Support Staff in the Records and Archives Management Office.

Leadership with Heart

Dr. Tan’s initiative is more than a management decision — it’s a reflection of leadership rooted in compassion. It’s a reminder that when leaders believe in people, transformation happens.

At BASC, even those once tasked to guard its gates now help manage its offices — living proof that opportunity, when given with sincerity and trust, can change lives.

For Mr. Santos, Mr. Espiritu, Mr. Taluban, and Ms. Mananguit, the journey from uniforms to office desks is not just a shift in role — it’s the story of a leader who saw their worth and helped them rise.
