BASC Sports Fest 2025 Opens with Color, Pride, and a Call for Integrity

The Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) community celebrated the opening of the 2025 Sports Fest Intramurals Week with a vibrant display of unity, school pride, and a renewed commitment to integrity in sports. Guided by the theme “Unity, Integrity, and Good Governance in Sports,” the first day set a spirited tone for the week ahead.

The festivities began early as the Grand Parade brought energy and excitement to the campus. After the parade, the formal program started. Dr. Cecilia S. Santiago, Vice President for Academic Affairs, opened the ceremony with her welcoming remarks, followed by a message from the College President, Dr. Jameson H. Tan. The ceremonial traditions then continued as Silver Medalist Paul Lenard Sarmiento led the Oath of Amateurism, reaffirming every athlete’s pledge to uphold honesty and integrity. Another Silver Medalist, Lenard Mendoza, lit the symbolic Flame, officially opening the athletic competitions. College deans, muses, and escorts capped the ceremony by proudly raising their delegation banners.

The program concluded with Closing Remarks from Federation of Supreme Student Council (FSSC) President Mr. Edwin S. Santos, who encouraged all athletes to compete with enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the week.

One of the highlights of the day was the message delivered by Hon. Mark Cholo I. Violago, Congressman of the 3rd District of Bulacan, during the Mr. and Miss Sports Fest Competition held after the opening program. Beyond urging the BASC community to uphold integrity and unity in the games, Cong. Violago offered a powerful, tangible commitment: his office would always be ready to financially support every student who steps up to represent the institution in both sports and academic competitions.

In the much-awaited Mr. and Miss Sports Fest competition, the candidates first showcased charisma and confidence through the production number, Sports Wear Competition, Casual Wear, and Word Interpretation. Emotions then filled the venue as 2024 titleholders John Michael Santos and Ericka Manabat took their heartfelt farewell walk before the crowning of this year’s winners.

With events now underway until November 21, the BASC Sports Fest promises not only thrilling competitions but also meaningful experiences that strengthen camaraderie within the community. As the week unfolds, students and faculty are reminded to carry forward the true essence of sportsmanship—unity, integrity, and good governance both on and off the playing field.
