BASC IAS Social Science Department to Hold Educational Tour 2026
SAN ILDEFONSO, BULACAN — The Institute
of Arts and Sciences (IAS) – Social Science Department of Bulacan Agricultural
State College (BASC) is set to conduct its Educational Tour 2026 on March 5,
2026. This activity is part of the department’s continued commitment to
providing students with experiential and transformative learning opportunities.
The tour is specifically designed for
students currently enrolled in Readings in Philippine History (HIST100), Life
and Works of Rizal (PI100), Teaching Social Studies in Elementary Grades
(SOCSC102), and Art Appreciation (HUM100). By moving beyond the four corners of
the classroom, the initiative aims to deepen students’ understanding of
Philippine historical contexts, significant national figures, and cultural
heritage sites.
Integrated into the semester’s course
syllabi, the tour emphasizes direct exposure to primary sources, historical
landmarks, and the diverse perspectives that have shaped the nation’s history.
Through this initiative, students are expected to develop a deeper appreciation
for the country’s rich cultural legacy.
This academic activity is spearheaded by
Dr. Yosef Eric C. Hipolito and Prof. Leonor V. Concepcion, esteemed members of
the Social Science Faculty. Their leadership continues to promote innovative,
student-centered learning experiences within the Institute.
Proposed Itinerary
- 📍 Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar
(Bagac, Bataan): A
premier heritage destination showcasing restored Spanish-Filipino
ancestral houses. It offers a tangible experience of colonial-era
architecture and the traditional Filipino lifestyle.
- 📍 Diosdado Macapagal Museum (Lubao,
Pampanga): A
tribute to the “Poor Boy from Lubao,” this museum serves as the
ancestral home of the 9th President of the Philippines. It features a rich
collection of personal memorabilia and historical artifacts that chronicle
his life, his rise to the presidency, and the enduring legacy of the
Macapagal family.
- 📍 San Guillermo Parish Church
(Bacolor, Pampanga):
A historic landmark famously partially buried by lahar following the 1991
eruption of Mount Pinatubo. Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of
resilience, faith, and community strength.
Through this initiative, the BASC IAS
Social Science Department reaffirms its dedication to holistic
education—bridging the gap between academic theory and lived history while
nurturing socially aware and culturally grounded future citizens.
