Bulacan Center for Social History, SINEliksik Marker Officially Inaugurated at BASC

SAN ILDEFONSO, Bulacan — Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) officially inaugurated the Bulacan Center for Social History and unveiled the SINEliksik Bulacan Heritage Marker on Wednesday, October 14, at the college’s Main Campus in San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

The inauguration marked the opening of the new cultural and historical facility, alongside the recognition of the historical significance of the BASC Executive House, locally known as the “White House,” where the ceremony was held.

The center aims to preserve historical artifacts, document local traditions, and provide interactive learning experiences that make Bulacan’s history accessible and engaging for people of all ages. It also seeks to strengthen connections between generations through the preservation and appreciation of shared cultural heritage.

In his message, BASC President Dr. Jameson H. Tan emphasized the center’s role in helping future students understand the institution’s rich history and development. He noted that the initiative goes beyond preserving the past, as it also promotes local pride and provides meaningful insights for shaping the future.

“Hindi lamang ito isang museo o silid aklatan, ito ay isang buhay na espasyo para sa diskurso, pag-aaral at pag-unawa sa ating nakaraan, upang mas mapabuti pa ang ating kasalukuyan,” he said.

The program began with a religious blessing officiated by Rev. Fr. Angel Santiago, parish priest of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Pinaod, followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The formal program commenced with a prayer and opening remarks delivered by Project Associate Dr. Jennifer I. Guevarra. Head Curator Dr. Yosef Eric C. Hipolito then presented the statement of purpose and brief history of the BASC Executive House, also known as the “White House.”

Inspirational messages followed, delivered by representatives of key local and provincial government officials. Mr. Roberto Valdizno represented San Ildefonso Mayor Fernando “Gazo” Galvez Jr.; Mr. Crispin De Luna represented Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando; and Mr. Michael Sayco represented Third District Representative Mark Cholo I. Violago.

Center Director Dr. Ma. Leonora C. Sta. Ana subsequently led the recognition of stakeholders and guests from various sectors, expressing her gratitude to the individuals and organizations whose contributions helped make the center’s establishment and the program possible.

The ceremony proceeded with the unveiling of the SINEliksik Bulacan Heritage Marker, followed by the signing of an agreement on the transfer and care of the marker. The agreement involved representatives from BASC, the Municipal Government of San Ildefonso, the Provincial Government of Bulacan, and the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO), led by Acting Head Limuel Jan J. Lobederio.

A bust of former president Ramon Magsaysay was formally given to BASC by a partner historical organization, Pangkat Saliksik ng Kasaysayan ng Bayan (PASAKABA) headed by Ms. Aleli B. Canoza. San Ildefonso Municipal Tourism Office Head Denniesse Anne G. Hernandez delivered the closing remarks, while Mariel A. Samson, a faculty member of the Institute of Arts and Sciences, served as the master of ceremonies. The event concluded with an audiovisual presentation and a walkthrough of the museum’s new exhibits.

The establishment of the Bulacan Center for Social History marks a significant step toward strengthening cultural preservation, historical research, and community engagement. For BASC, the center provides an educational space where students and researchers can explore the institution’s history and the broader historical context of the province. For the Municipality of San Ildefonso and the Province of Bulacan, it offers opportunities to promote local tourism, strengthen community identity, and deepen public appreciation of Bulacan’s rich cultural heritage.

Through this initiative, BASC reinforces its commitment to preserving and promoting the province’s history, culture, and traditions, ensuring that these remain accessible and meaningful to present and future generations.
