BASC Secures ₱9.5M DOST-PCAARRD Grant for Community Resilience Projects

SAN ILDEFONSO, Bulacan — Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) will implement two science-driven community development projects after securing ₱9.5 million in funding support from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).
The projects are part of the Good Agri-Aqua Livelihood Initiative towards National Goals (GALING) PCAARRD Kontra Krisis (GPKK) Program, a nationwide effort that promotes the adoption of science and technology interventions to help communities address various crises and vulnerabilities.
The official launch took place on June 22, 2026, during the celebration of DOST-PCAARRD’s 15th anniversary. The event also featured the virtual signing of the Statement of Cooperation among participating institutions and project implementers.
During the ceremonial signing, BASC President Dr. Jameson H. Tan, together with project leaders Dr. Imee D. Esguerra, Director for Extension Services, and Engr. Benjie C. Timbang, Director of the Palayamanan Research and Development Center, reaffirmed the college’s commitment to implementing impactful and sustainable programs that benefit local communities.
One of the approved initiatives, titled “Generating Resilience and Opportunities for Women (GROW) Amidst the Middle East Conflicts,” will be led by Dr. Esguerra. The project seeks to assist women and vulnerable families experiencing economic and social challenges brought about by global uncertainties.
Meanwhile, Engr. Timbang will oversee “Establishing a Science-Based Food Security and Disaster Resilience Loop through the BASC-Palayamanan Production Hub (Project AGRI-LIFELINE).” Through this initiative, the BASC Palayamanan Research and Development Production Hub will be enhanced into a responsive and science-based food system that can help improve food security and strengthen disaster preparedness among underserved communities in several municipalities across Bulacan.
Implementation activities for both projects will commence in July 2026, supported by the allocated grant from DOST-PCAARRD.
The newly awarded funding further highlights BASC’s role in utilizing research, innovation, and extension services to develop practical solutions that empower communities and build long-term resilience against emerging societal challenges.
