BASC Welcomes Leyte Normal University for GreenMetric Exchange

SAN ILDEFONSO, BULACAN — Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) welcomed a delegation from Leyte Normal University (LNU) on July 10, 2025, for an institutional benchmarking visit focused on BASC’s acclaimed UI GreenMetric Sustainability Practices. Held at the BASC Function Hall, the visit highlighted the commitment of both institutions to strengthening collaboration and advancing sustainable and environmentally responsible initiatives within the higher education sector.

The day’s program kicked off at 9:00 AM with BASC leaders extending warm greetings. College President Dr. Jameson  H. Tan, along with Engr. Alvin G. Quizon (Director for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Office) and Dr. Cecilia S. Santiago (Vice President for Academic Affairs), set a positive tone for the day through a virtual address. Dr. Meriam F. Sulit, Director for the International Relations Office, then introduced the BASC team before turning the floor over to Mr. Bryan Joseph E. Matillano, LNU’s Focal Person for the Waste Sector, who introduced the visiting delegates. Finally, Dr. Rommel L. Verecio, Dean of LNU’s Graduate School, shared his insights, emphasizing the importance of such inter-university exchanges. The BASC Liping Tagalog Folkloric Group rendered a superb cultural performance to the delight of the all in attendance.

A central part of the visit was a detailed presentation by Engr. Alvin G. Quizon, who shared BASC’s journey and achievements in its UI GreenMetric initiatives. He outlined the strategies that have propelled BASC to its current standing in the global university rankings for sustainability, offering a clear picture of their success.

Following the presentation, Dr. Meriam F. Sulit facilitated an engaging forum, creating an open space for representatives from both institutions to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore exciting possibilities for future cooperation. The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to building greener, more sustainable campuses.

The day culminated in a significant moment: the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BASC and LNU executives. This agreement formalized their dedication to working together on academic and sustainability projects, marking a new chapter in their institutional relationship. Engr. Joselito D. Tucit, Director for Intellectual Property, Technology and Business Management Office, offered the concluding remarks, while Mrs. Geraldine A. Cruz, Director for Public Affairs and Information Office expertly served as the Lady of Ceremony throughout the program.

This benchmarking visit not only underscores BASC’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility but also strengthens vital connections with other leading educational institutions across the Philippines, paving the way for a more sustainable future in higher education.
