BASC Hosts 10th International Lecture Series, Charting New Global Strategies Through Fulbright and COIL

SAN ILDEFONSO, Bulacan — Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) successfully held its two-day International Lecture Series No. 10, focusing on “Internalization at Home Strategies through Fulbright and COIL Programs” from October 13 to 14, 2025, at the BASC Function Hall. The event served as an essential, high-level platform designed to equip the academic community with innovative tools and a fresh global perspective, effectively bringing world-class educational strategies directly to the campus.

The lecture series was made possible through a strong partnership between BASC and several prestigious international and local institutions, including Quirino State University (QSU), Adamas University (India), and National Chi Nan University (Taiwan). Dr. Cecilia S. Santiago, BASC Vice President for Academic Affairs, officially opened the program, followed by a dynamic introduction of the resource speakers by Dr. Meriam F. Sulit, BASC Director of the International Relations Office, setting a vibrant tone for the two-day academic exchange.

Focus on COIL and International Publishing

Day 1 of the series centered on leveraging local expertise for global impact. Speakers from Quirino State University led the discussions, with Dr. Jonathan N. Tariga (Chairperson, BS in Hospitality Management, QSU) opening the session with a comprehensive lecture on International Book Publishing and Empowering Your Author Journey. This was followed by key sessions detailing practical methods for institutional global engagement: Dr. Arlyn J. Yra (Chairperson, BS in Nutrition and Dietetics, QSU) discussed the seamless implementation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), sharing the philosophy that “Transformation in education begins when learning becomes purposeful, inclusive and globally connected.” Meanwhile, Dr. Romiro G. Bautista (Director, IRO-QSU) presented strategies for incorporating Fulbright initiatives into the university’s internationalization goals. The day’s events were beautifully interspersed with a vibrant Cultural Performance by the BASC Liping Tagalog Folkloric Group.

Global Expertise and Action-Oriented Workshop

The second day shifted focus to international best practices through online lectures from our global partners. Prof. Dr. Shauli Mukherjee (Professor & Dean, School of Education & Dean of International Relations, Adamas University, India) shared the successful Internationalization Strategies of Adamas University. Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Ching-Ying Tung (National Chi Nan University, Taiwan) provided valuable insights into the successful Internationalization Strategies of National Chi Nan University.

The two-day series culminated in a high-impact Workshop where participants were tasked with presenting their Outputs and Proposed Activities. This essential, hands-on segment ensured that the theoretical knowledge gained was immediately translated into concrete, actionable plans for BASC’s future international efforts. Dr. Meriam F. Sulit, BASC Director of the International Relations Office, delivered the Closing Remarks, passionately emphasizing BASC’s renewed commitment to achieving global academic excellence and thoroughly preparing both students and faculty for an interconnected world.
