BASC-DSWD Partnership Uplifts 349 Students Through KALAHI-CIDSS Program

SAN ILDEFONSO, BULACAN — The Bulacan Agricultural State College (BASC) marked another milestone in student empowerment as 349 students from low-income families received their well-earned compensation from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program during a payout held at the BASC Multipurpose Gymnasium.
More than just a payout, the event celebrated the completion of a 25-day community work engagement that gave these students the opportunity to earn while gaining real-world experience. Over the past weeks, they contributed their time, skills, and energy to various offices across the BASC campus. For many, this initiative served as both a lifeline and a stepping stone as they prepare to transition into the professional world.
Each student received ₱13,750, a tangible reward for their hard work and a crucial support as they pursue their dreams. For some, it will help put food on the table; for others, it will serve as savings as they take their first steps beyond college.
The KALAHI-CIDSS program is one of DSWD’s flagship poverty alleviation initiatives, designed to empower communities and uplift the lives of marginalized sectors. By partnering with selected State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) like BASC, the program creates meaningful opportunities that affirm to students that they are not alone in their struggles, and that with support, a way out of poverty is possible.
This successful collaboration stands as a testament to the power of partnership between higher education institutions and government agencies. It shows how united efforts can yield life-changing outcomes for the youth, their families, and their communities.
As BASC continues to shape future farmers, engineers, and leaders, this partnership proves that investing in the youth is also investing in a stronger and more resilient Philippines—one student at a time.
