BASC launches new Palayamanan project
Another Palayamanan project entitled “Upscaling of Rice-Based Integrated Farming System in Bulacan” was officially launched yesterday at the Farmers’ Training Center of Bulacan Agricultural State College.
The project aims to promote the integrated farming system in Angat, Bustos and San Ildefonso, Bulacan which were identified as the three project sites for model farm establishment. To achieve this, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between BASC and the three identified LGUs.
Dr. Arthur D. Dayrit from DA-RFO 3 graced the event and expressed his strong support to the project which he deemed can really help the farmers in Bulacan in increasing income and productivity.
Dr. Jameson H. Tan, BASC president also delivered an inspirational message and encouraged the farmers to continue this noble work. He also thanked them for ensuring that we have food to eat at our table.
Dr. Honeylet J. Nicolas, VP for REPD also showed her support through her opening remarks. She stressed the importance of practicing an integrated farming system as this would enable the farmers to diversify their crops so that they will not rely on only one commodity.
Messages of commitment were also delivered by the officials from the partner-LGUs of Angat, Bustos and San Ildefonso. The identified farmer cooperators in each site also promised their full commitment in order to ensure the success of the project.
Dr. Imelda S.A. Navarro, the project leader explained the project concept and activities in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the project. Other members of the project include Dr. Imee D. Esguerra, Extension Director and faculty members from the College of Agriculture namely: Dr. Helen G. Manalastas, Mr. Denvir Godoy, Ms. Evelyn Alera and Mrs. Verginia Soriano.
Field visit to the BASC-Windmill Collaborative Technology Demonstration Farm at Malipampang, San Ildefonso, Bulacan was held in the afternoon in order to showcase to the participants how a rice-based integrated farm operates.
