BASC receives P6M-worth feed mill project from DA-BAI

The Bulacan Agricultural State College has been hailed as recipient of Php6,000,000.00 from the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) as funding support for the project titled “Establishment of Mini-Feed Mill at Bulacan Agricultural State College”. This partnership was forged through the initiatives of the BASC Research, Extension, Production and Development (REPD) Office, headed by REPD Vice President Dr. Susan C. Santos, with the support from BASC President Dr. Jamseson H. Tan, Research Director Dr. Honeylet J. Nicolas, and Extension Director Dr. Imee D. Esguerra.

In a fitting ceremony held October 21, 2020 at the BASC Farmer’s Training Center, the check representing the project budget was awarded by DA-BAI to BASC. Dr. William C. Medrano, DA Undersecretary for Livestock, graced the event as the guest speaker. Ms. Elisa Mallari from the DA-Regional Field Office III (RFO 3) gave her opening remarks on behalf of DA-RFO 3 Regional Director Mr. Crispulo Bautista Jr., while Dr. Eduardo Torne, LRDD-BAI OIC, represented BAI Director IV Dr. Ronnie D. Domingo introduced the guest speaker.

Aside from the officials of the Department of Agriculture, key officers of the Association of Rabbit Meat Producers, Inc. (ARaMP), Mr. Artemio Veneracion and Mrs. Angelina Veneracion took part in the event as well.

BASC was the first SUC feed mill fund recipient. The feed mill plant was expected to provide additional aid to resolve the issues concerning the high input costs of animal husbandry and the insufficient food supply for the animals. This feed mill project is part of the recovery agenda by the Duterte Administration, which was included in the Plant, Plant, Plant Program of the Department of Agriculture under the leadership of DA Secretary Dr. William Dar.

A seminar about rabbit raising was also conducted for the farmers of San Ildefonso. Mr. Artemio Veneracion, ARaMP President, served as the resource speaker. Mr. Sonny Dela Cruz and Ms. Jocelyn Espiritu, faculty from the Institute of Management, demonstrated how rabbit meat can be used to prepare rampling and lapanada.

To further promote rabbit raising, the DA-BAI conducted a raffle for participants with eight (8) pairs of rabbit as prizes. It was agreed that winners of the raffle shall return to BASC a pair of offspring after the rabbit gave birth approximately seven (7) months from the date of the training which will be distributed to participants who have not won in the raffle.
